The annual conference organized by The International Journal Hydropower & Dams is the world’s most international event held in Europe for the hydropower profession.
Dr. Iñaki Azkuna (Mayor of Bilbao), Mr. Adama Nombre (President of the International Commission on Large Dams) and Mr. Alfonso Menoyo (Iberdrola, Spain) addressed the opening plenary session, along with keynote speakers from the International Energy Agency, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Brazil, the European Small Hydropower Association (ESHA) and the World Bank.
Parallel sessions concerning technical, financial/economic, and environmental/social aspects were conducted during these three days. There were regional sessions and updates on some of the world’s most important schemes under construction worldwide, covering large and small hydro. Interactive discussions were encouraged through panels and workshops.
Among HYDRO2012 activities, a workshop, entitled “Closing the gap between experienced and junior staff in the hydro/dam profession: Commitment to the transfer of skills”, took place on Tuesday afternoon.
