Brazil and Portugal will discuss about dam safety next October 5, 2012
The National Water Agency of Brazil (Agência Nacional de Águas, ANA) and the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering of Portugal (Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil, LNEC) are organizing an exchange of experiences on dam safety issues which will take place in October 5, in the auditorium of ANA in Brasilia.
The Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC) is a state owned research and development (R&D) institution founded in 1946.
Dam safety implementation at national scale in Brazil will be discussed along with the presentation of the Portuguese experience of over 20 years in dam safety management.
Brazil has 13,529 dams operated by state and federal institutions. Among them, 11,748 dams are multi-purpose dams (including urban supply, irrigation, industrial supply, recreation, etc.), 1,261 are hydropower dams, 264 are used for mining industry, and 256 for industrial uses.
